American Express recently launched a new targeted offer that can save Delta passengers up to 19% on airfare when booking through Amex Travel. I took a closer look at the details to see if it’s worth taking advantage of.
How does the Offer Work?
- Spend $650+ on Delta flights via AmexTravel.com by January 31, 2024
- Receive a one-time $125 statement credit
On the surface, getting nearly 20% cash back makes this very enticing. However, unlike typical Delta Amex Offers, some restrictions limit the value.

Limitations to Consider
- Must book through Amex Travel, not directly with Delta
- More inconvenient if flight changes or cancellations
- Excludes any non-Delta flights or Amex Travel purchases
The requirement to book via Amex Travel is the biggest caveat. While their portal likely matches Delta.com prices, changes or cancellations require going through an extra middleman. Direct Delta bookings are more seamless.
Additionally, the credit excludes combined Delta flights with hotels or car rentals. It only applies to stand-alone airfare purchases.
Is It Still Worth It?
If you were already planning to fly Delta only, getting $125 back is still a good deal. Having to rebook through Amex Travel is inconvenient, but the savings of over $100 are well worth it.
My verdict: Delta flyers targeted for this offer should strongly consider activating it and booking applicable flights through the Amex portal. Just recognize the minor limitations compared to typical Delta Amex Offers before transferring an existing flight.
Despite the limitations, this still provides huge savings given the right circumstances. However, it is less broadly useful than similar airline rebates.
